Literacy Camp and Teacher Appreciation at FHES

FHES Literacy Camp

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our Literacy Camp Book Drive through Causevox or by purchasing supplies on Amazon (it turns out that we are unable to see who you are on Amazon, but are very grateful nonetheless)! Because of your generosity, we were able to exceed our goal to support Florence Howard Elementary School’s 2022 “Under the Sea” Literacy Camp by putting together a treasure chest book box for each grade-level classroom as well as providing backpacks full of literacy items for over 160 students taking part in the program. We were also able to provide an end-of-camp celebration to recognize the faculty and students’ hard work. Learning incentives such as this are an important part of making the educational experience fun and rewarding. The kids had a great time with face painting, jump houses, a DJ, various games and activities, and a pizza party. With some help from our friends at Taco Mama, we were also able to provide lunch for our teachers. We are so grateful for the volunteers that came out to help us make this celebration a success and to the faculty and staff at FHES who continue to partner with us to make a difference in the lives of children.

We Love FHES Teachers

To recognize the incredible teachers at Florence Howard Elementary School and all their hard work to enrich the lives of children in The Avenue community, we celebrated the end of the school year and a job well done with a party at Fuse Factory. We also kicked off the new school year together with a special breakfast at the school. We are so grateful for our friends at FHES!

3rd Annual Walk Through Vivian’s Door Market Festival

Fuse Project and The Historic Avenue Foundation (THAF) partnered with Vivian’s Door to sponsor their 3rd annual Walk Through Vivian’s Door Market Festival & Soulfood Cook-off + Digital Divas & Dudes Bootcamp on July 16, 2022. We donated a Chick-fil-A breakfast, provided tents for the vendors, and contributed over 40 hours of staff time to help plan and prepare for the event. This community event served approximately 200 attendees including youth participants and volunteers.

Events like these are vital to our mission in The Avenue by allowing us to connect with the residents and forge relationships in the community so that we can work hand in hand together to create transformational change and break the cycle of poverty.
