Fellowship and Friends - Fall 2021
We had a busy fall and winter in The Avenue. We helped host a Fall Festival Community Day in October, a Thanksgiving food distribution in November, and a Christmas musical and dinner in December.
FALL FESTIVAL COMMUNITY DAY
The annual Avenue Community Day was held on October 30 on Congress Street. We provided plenty of treats, books, and meals to children and families in the community. We had card games and bounce houses for the kids, and fun was had by all. This event was hosted in partnership with Vivian’s Door and The Campground Bottom Community Association.
THANKSGIVING FOOD DISTRIBUTION
We held a Thanksgiving Food Distribution on November 24 at the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association. We provided warm Thanksgiving meals to over 200 people. To date, we have provided well over 5,000 warm meals to children and families in our community.
SOULFUL SOUNDS ON THE AVENUE
On December 19, we hosted Soulful Sounds on The Avenue, a Christmas musical event, in the heart of The Avenue at Stewart Memorial CME Church. This was an awesome community event with local and national recording artists. The highlight of the night was The Davis Avenue Children's Choir, directed by the president of the Campground Bottom Association, Tracy Odom. In addition to pictures with Santa, all of the children received bookbags, school supplies, books, and special gifts. We also provided $50 gift cards to all members of The Davis Avenue Children’s Choir. This event was in partnership with Vivian’s Door, Adjusted Reality, and The Campground Bottom Community Association.
Events like these are vital to our mission in The Avenue by allowing us to connect with the residents and forge relationships in the community so that we can work hand in hand together to create transformational change and break the cycle of poverty.
