Mrs. Manzy Retires
We’ve hosted many corporate events at Fuse Factory, but one recent celebration holds a special place in our hearts. After an incredible 32 years in education, Mrs. Manzy, former principal of Florence Howard Elementary School, has retired! Surrounded by family and past and present staff, we celebrated Mrs. Manzy’s dedication and mentorship. Words like “patient, welcoming, understanding” echoed throughout the event, truly capturing her spirit. The staff of FHES treated guests to a delicious brunch featuring chicken and waffles, fruit salad, and homemade grits, followed by a special toast and a scrumptious cake.
Fuse Project is beyond grateful for having the chance to partner with Mrs. Manzy at FHES. She has been instrumental in bringing academic support to life and serves passionately on our Education Task Force. Congratulations to Mrs. Manzy and her remarkable legacy!
Blue Ties For Guys
Fuse Factory recently hosted a transformative event, "Blue Ties for Guys - A Gentleman in the Making Camp," in collaboration with the Mobile Police Department. Held on Thursday, July 25, this unique summer camp aimed to equip boys aged 13-15 with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate today's society as well-mannered, confident gentlemen.
The Mobile Police Department's Family Intervention Team organized the one-day camp, designed to make a positive impact on the lives of young boys during the summer. The camp's curriculum focused on teaching proper etiquette, social skills, decision-making, and goal-setting—key components that contribute to personal and professional success.
"We created the Blue Ties for Guys camp to bring enlightenment to real-life skills that are needed in today’s society," explained Jennifer King, MPD Family Intervention Team Specialist. "It is often said that good manners are important for success in life. Setting such standards of behavior encourages others to treat you with similar respect, thus creating a kinder world."
The camp featured several interactive sessions, each tailored to address specific aspects of personal development. These sessions included:
Freeing the Mind: Encouraging participants to think critically and independently.
The Five Senses of Belonging: Your Affiliation Matters- Exploring the importance of belonging and community.
Defining Healthy Relationships: Teaching the fundamentals of respectful and healthy interactions.
Finding Etiquette the Gentleman Way: Focusing on the nuances of good manners and social graces.
Follow Your Ambitions: Youth Entrepreneurship- Inspiring entrepreneurial spirit and goal-setting.
Everyone’s Got Talent! Serve Yours: Encouraging participants to recognize and nurture their unique talents.
One of the camp's highlights was the involvement of Mobile Police officers, who played a crucial role in mentoring the boys. "Having police officers be a part of the camp creates an opportunity for them to help inspire participants, and at the same time, build a sense of trust and respect between law enforcement and youth," King added. "We want the participants to leave confident and with an outlook full of grand possibilities for their life."
The day concluded with a special "Mobile’s Future Gentlemen Styled-Out Photoshoot," where the boys donned blue neckties and suits provided by Naman’s Department Store, one of the camp's sponsors. The boys practiced the skills they learned, from tying ties to presenting themselves with confidence, culminating in a polished and stylish photoshoot that celebrated their growth and achievements.
The event was made possible through the support of various sponsors and community partners, including the Mobile Police Department’s First Precinct, Youth Services Detail, and Homicide Detail. Additional support came from Palmer’s Airport Hyundai, Mullinax Ford of Mobile, Paulette’s House of Beauty, Rise Church, and Scentsy with Jensi. Local businesses also contributed in-kind, with TBB Barbershop, Eastern Shore Barber Shop, Jimmy John’s (Du Rhu Drive), and Chick-Fil-A (Dauphin Street) providing refreshments and services.
The "Blue Ties for Guys" camp was more than just a day of activities; it was a stepping stone for young boys to start their journey towards becoming respectful, responsible, and well-rounded individuals. Events like these highlight the importance of community involvement and mentorship in shaping the future of our youth, fostering a generation of young gentlemen ready to take on the challenges of the world with confidence and grace.
